We asked participants to complete a measure of n Achievement and then a subliminal priming task that ostensibly measured verbal information processing (decision speed as fast as possible to decide whether a string of letters flashed on the screen ended in a vowel or consonant). As predicted, the result was that chronically low levels of n Achievement were associated with a preference for the control, rather than the achievement, frame of the priming condition.
